Lutron is widely regarded for it’s position in the Lighting Control Market and the release of it’s newest technology, Lutron RA2, helped fill a gap in the market with respect to existing Lutron Dealers. Whilst RA2 is a commendable system, installers are still short with respect to other elements of control (HVAC for example) and aesthetics (Keypads for example).
KNX RF is rapidly becoming the solution for choice in competing with RA2 and we explore this further below.
Lutron RA2 and KNX RF share a number of core traits but also significant differences as laid out in the below table:
Lutron RA2 | KNX RF |
---|---|
Up to 100 Devices per Segment | Up to 256 Devices per Segment |
Uses RF 868Mhz | Uses RF 868Mhz |
RF Range: 9M Inside | TP to RF Range: 30M Inside |
Signal Repeating allowed (additional hardware) | Signal Repeating allowed |
Lighting & Shading Control | Lighting, Shading, HVAC and more |
Plastic Keypads in Black or White | Hundreds of Keypad options |
Whilst the KNX industry embraces the benefits of RF technologies, the reliability of cable cannot be overlooked and the Twisted Pair (TP) remains the primary focus for the global industry. KNX RF provides a solution for integrators to achieve control where cabling is not possible and as such, TP and RF can be used together in the same installation.
